We are three mature students currently studying various Masters degrees within the School of Education at the University of Leeds. This site provides a platform to present our research in Learning Analytics and demonstrates how it meets the assessment criteria.

Summary / Key Findings

  • Learning analytics are one of the fastest growing areas within educational technology that utilises Big Data to provide insights into likely outcomes for students
  • Applicable to all areas of education from MOOCs offered by universities to formative assessments of pupils in schools
  • Direct data capture reduces administrative burden for teaching and administrative staff
  • Poses a number of legal and ethical issues surrounding privacy and ownership of data within and between institutions
  • More stringent regulations and harsher penalties introduced in May 2016 to ensure good governance and ethical handling of data within the EU
